ITINERARY
Day One:
To the Loch and Inverness
Our expedition heads northwards to twist it's way throught the Highland Glens to the famous Loch Ness, but on the way there are many distractions to be enjoyed. Having traversed the ancient kingdom if Fife our first stop in the Highlands is Dunkeld. This truly quaint villages' history goes way back to the early days of Christianity and it's spectacular cathedral is over 700 years old.
From Dunkelds' old stone to the very old art of making whisky and a trip to the gates of Scotland’s smallest distillery. With a taste of the water of life and a tour of the distillery this stop will bring you to life. Then, a short stop for lunch at Pitlochry before heading north into the mountains and a visit to the pass of Killiekrankie, the site of the 1689 Jacobite uprising.
We continue with the same theme for the afternoon as we visit the haunting ruins of Ruthven Barracks set amidst the Grampian Mountains. Thence onward to the mighty Loch Ness, for a twylight chance to see the fearsome beastie of the water.
And after a day like that there is only one thing to do. Party on in the Capital of the Highlands, Inverness - yay!
Day Two:
Escaping the Monster
Today we search the length of the Loch from Inverness to Fort Augustus and after probably finding Nessie and a subsequent photo-shoot with her, we sadly must bid our farewells and head back down south. But today's route takes us westward and through magnificent Glen Coe - one of Scotland's most wonderful sights.
From here we travel across Rannoch Moor and
through the hills southward, but no trip to the Highlands would be complete without a stop to feed and pet the Highland's most famous animal the Hairy Coo. Then it's on to Stirling, the site of the great battles of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and the History of the Wars of Independence.
In two days we can give you a real feel for the history, culture and beauty of the Highlands, as well as an excellent chance to snap Nessie!
