Christmas Tour Itinerary:

Day 1. From one Capital to another!

Leaving Edinburgh Scotland’s beautiful capital city we travel north over the Firth of Forth and through the Kingdom of Fife crossing the Highland Boundary to our first destination Dunkeld. This gorgeous village nestling in its surrounding hills and its Bus on tour at Christmasancient cathedral is a great place to get a taster of Scottish History from your entertaining guide.

Once back on the bus it’s North once more travelling deeper into the Grampian Mountains where you’ll hear tales of rebellious Highlanders, stopping at Tomatin whisky distillery for a guided tour of the distillery and a dram of Scotland’s national drink, then on to atmospheric Culloden Battlefield and finally awesome Loch Ness where those in the group brave or mad enough jump in for a swim whilst the rest search the horizon for that illusive sighting of Nessie herself.

We arrive at Inverness Capital of the Highlands for our nights rest and entertainment.

Day 2. Northern Wilds and Over the sea to Skye!

With Inverness behind us we travel further north still and west taking in walks and water falls at Rogie Forest and the specatular Corrieshalloch Gorge. Travelling through the amazing Tour group at ChristmasTorridon Mountains with picture postcard views at all times you’ll be given plenty of opportunity for camera stops to take photographs to remind you of this beautiful part of Scotland.

Before arriving on the Isle of Skye we’ll stop at Eilean Donan Castle a superb example of a 13th century Scottish castle. We will be staying in the picturesque and quaint fishing village of Kyleakin on the Island its self and this is where we will refer to as home for the next three nights.

Day 3. Magical Isle of Skye!

The Isle of Skye is a truly magical place unique within the British Isles for its scenery due to the Cuillin Mountains rising straight out from the Northern Atlantic waters and sharp peaks coupled with the strange volcanic rock formations on the Trotternish Peninsula.

The best thing is that we spend the entire day exploring this great island because we’re based on it. You’ll hear myths and legends from an ancient time, clan feuds that Snow in the Highlandsraged on for centuries, go on amazing walks and visit and pay respect to the faeries when visiting the special Faerie Glen.

The order in which you travel and explore this magical island is left entirely up to the vast knowledge and experience of your driver/guide because we trust them to give you the best time possible.

Day 4. CHRISTMAS DAY!

After a leisurely start we do a wee bit more exploring and chilling out on the Isle of Skye before returning to Kyleakin for your Christmas celebrations. On arrival back at the hostel you’ll receive a festive drink do get you into the mood before heading to a local pub for Christmas Dinner accompanied with the receiving of gifts courtesy of MacBackpackers and then it’s PARTY TIME!

Day 5. Edinburgh bound!

Christmas SnowmanLeaving the Isle of Skye you will be filled with a great sense that you have experienced something completely different and take home wonderful memories of a Christmas never to be forgotten.

As we travel south we will pass back into the great glen, travel down part of the beautiful west coast of Scotland, hear the history and see the scenery that makes Glen Coe such a memorable place, cross ancient moor land, listen to the exploits of Scotland’s  best known folk heroes Rob Roy MacGregor, visit an old friend ofMacBackpackers “Hamish the Highland Cow” before stopping to hear all about Scotland’s turbulent past with our southern neighbours involving the true legend of Braveheart Robert the Bruce and Scotland’s favourite son Book your tour nowWilliam Wallace.

Once back in Edinburgh it’s either fond farewells or why not decided to go for an after tour drink to recap laugh about all the fun you’ve had over the previous 5 days.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
